Alejo Vidal-Quadras Commitment to the society

The Fundación ONCE has accustomed us to a degree of quality in all its activities and initiatives which never ceases to amaze us; this magnificent Guide to Corporate Social Responsibility and Disability could not be an exception to this rule of self-imposed high standards and the search for excellence. Another trademark of the Fundación ONCE work is its creativity and constant wish to explore new territories in economic, cultural, social and educational fields in order to provide a better service to the people to whom it dedicates its attention and efforts.

From this perspective, it is evident that corporate social responsibility and disability form a partnership destined to bear great fruits; the Fundación ONCE has recognised this and launched itself, with the enthusiasm with which it prides itself in every one of its projects, into designing an action strategy which provides the corporate world with a wide range of criteria, measures and objectives aimed at incorporating people with disabilities into working life, under conditions equal to the rest of their fellow citizens. The Guide is simple, comprehensive, clear and didactic; company representatives are provided with an excellent tool to help the company fulfil its social function.

The Fundación ONCE clearly explains in this guide that strict compliance with current legislation on equality, non-discrimination and the integration of people with disabilities is one thing, and the voluntary desire to go beyond obligation and to enter fully into the field of social responsibility is another. Indeed, free and advanced societies are governed by numerous written rules derived from legislative procedure, non-fulfilment of which may be penalised in court; but there also exists a rich array of unwritten rules without which coexistence and progress would be difficult.

Corporate social responsibility is situated in the field in which the tasks we assign ourselves are not imposed by the Official State Gazette, but spring from our moral conscience, from our affection towards our fellow men and from our respect for all people regardless of their race, beliefs, sex, or physical or mental characteristics.

The Fundación ONCE, which is the living example of that spirit which makes us really human, provides us, in this Guide, with one more example of its commitment to the society of which it forms a part and of its untiring resolution to unite the most noble principles with the most tangible reality.
